This Fairfax County funded project was an upgrade to the existing vehicle maintenance facility that serviced county school buses, county commuter buses, Fire and Rescue vehicles, and county trash and recycling vehicles. With the variety of services provided by this single facility, multiple county agencies were consulted throughout the construction process to ensure everyone’s vehicle needs were met. Renovation, demolition, and new construction occurred over 3 phases that included demolition of existing paved areas for the new approximately 91,000 SF Maintenance Facility, maintaining operations of the existing maintenance facility adjacent to the new construction, demolition of the existing maintenance facility upon completion of the new facility, demolition of existing bus parking and installation of new bus and passenger vehicle parking, access roads and motorized security access gates. Maintaining the continued operation of services required constant coordination and communication with the operations team to ensure continued access for services and proper logistics to complete the physical construction of the facility while maintaining a safe working environment for the operating facility.
This 25.4 acre site consisted of utility demolition, modification and install of storm, sanitary and dry utilities, new precast screen/sound wall, wood fencing, access gates and roads. The new facility was comprised of service bays for general maintenance, vehicle paint booth, bus wash and an approximately 30,000 SF admin/office space with lockers and lounge areas for the county employees. The project also achieved LEED Silver Certification and provided the County with the much-needed upgraded service facility. E.E. Reed Construction also received the Fairfax County Contractor of the Year Award for our efforts on the project.
