Doug Peterson

President and COO

Doug joined the E.E. Reed family in 1992 and currently serves as President & Chief Operating Officer of E.E. Reed Construction – East Coast.  Doug’s primary role is to manage and help mitigate project risk and ensure E.E. Reed Construction – East Coast delivers on the promises made to our clients, a cornerstone of the business. He believes that by keeping promises and prioritizing integrity, it helps elevate all employees to achieve their full potential.  Leading teams to create and maintain client relationships, honor our commitments and deliver outstanding projects is extremely gratifying.  Doug has over 35 years of experience and is a familiar presence within the construction industry in the Washington, D.C. area market.

After graduating from Texas A&M University, Doug started his career as a carpenter, field engineer and superintendent in California. In 1992, he joined E.E. Reed Construction Company in Houston, Texas as a Project Manager. Over the course of the next 12 years, he worked his way up to Vice President working for Zapalac/Reed Construction in Austin, a member of the Reed Family of companies.  In 2004, he relocated to Virginia to serve as Executive Vice President overseeing the entire East Coast operations of the E.E. Reed Construction, L.P. In 2018, Doug became a partner with the Reed Family and President and COO of E.E. Reed Construction – East Coast.

Doug has a long history of industry service, he has been and continues as guest lecturer for multiple Universities and organizations in and around Virginia, focusing on project management, estimating, scheduling and contract administration.   He serves on the executive board of the Associated Builders and Contractors of Virginia and is the 2022 Chairman.  He is also affiliated with NAIOP and 7×24 exchange.

Doug holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction from Texas A&M University. He lives in Round Hill, Virginia, with his wife Michele and two golden retrievers, Jackson and Stetson. Outside of the office, Doug enjoys reading, golf, hiking, surfing, snowshoeing and snow skiing.
